Parish Council

What is a Parish Council?

A parish council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people in the parish.  It is the level government closest to the community, with the district authority (Calderdale MBC) above it in the hierarchy.

As it is the authority closest to the people, parish councils are invariably the first place people will go with concerns or ideas.  For this reason they are a vital part of any community.

Why become a Parish Councillor?

KickStart

Sometimes a lack of suitable transport can hold you back- especially when you are looking for work or keen to get started in training or education.

If transport is a struggle, Kickstart could be the answer to get you moving- so you can make the most of your potential. Our moped hire scheme is open to jobseekers or those on low income aged 16-55, living mainly in Norfolk, but also on the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire borders.

Handbell ringing group

Handbell Group

With regret, it has become necessary for the handbell group to be put on hold for a few weeks.  It is our intention to resume meetings as soon as we are able.  Please watch this space for news of a recommencement date.  This is due to circumstances beyond our control and we apologise for the disruption.

If you would like to know more about the group, please read the information below and/or contact Sylvia Coomber on 01379 643010.  Thank you

Fitsteps Class

FitSteps is being run at The Heywood Sports and Leisure Club (you do not have to be a member of the club to come along)  on a Tuesday morning at 9.30am.  Fitsteps is a group exercise class where we dance all your Ballroom and Latin favourites from ‘Strictly’.  You don’t need a partner or experience.
Classes are £5 pay as you go.

Dreamcatchers.

Dreamcatchers is a drama group which I believe is run on a Monday evening at SHelfanger Village Hall. It is run by Lauren Easter. I will add further detail when it becomes available.

All Saints Parish Church - Shelfanger.

A friendly church, and an interesting one too.  South Norfolk has a large concentration of mediaeval churches including All Saints Church in ShelfangeThe walls of the Church show paintings that have been dated to the late 13th century, almost certainly original to the building of the church. The 15th century half- timbered porch on the north side is a delight, as big as a cottage and making a real focus for the building from the street. In common with the other churches in this benefice, Shelfanger church is very welcoming to visitors.
