With regret, it has become necessary for the handbell group to be put on hold for a few weeks. It is our intention to resume meetings as soon as we are able. Please watch this space for news of a recommencement date. This is due to circumstances beyond our control and we apologise for the disruption.
If you would like to know more about the group, please read the information below and/or contact Sylvia Coomber on 01379 643010. Thank you
Have you ever tried ringing tunes on handbells?
As an adult team activity, handbell ringing is interesting, friendly and fun, and may be considered gentle physical and mental exercise, which can take place all year round, whatever the weather.
In January this year, a new group opened in Shelfanger, with five members soon becoming six. The group normally meets on Thursday evenings, from 7.30 to 9.30pm, at Fairways, Church Road, Shelfanger, IP22 2DG, the home of the group leaders, Sylvia and Francis Coomber. Interested? Then contact Sylvia or Francis on 01379 643010 for more information and to have a go at ringing, meet others from the village, and find out more about it.
Handbell ringing is suitable for all ages, male and female. No previous experience is necessary.
Please contact Sylvia Coomber - 01379 643010.
Who are the Coombers?
We moved to Shelfanger from Kent in November 2013.
I've always been fascinated by the sound of handbells and, in 2006 in a village near Maidstone, as a complete novice, I had the opportunity to start a handbell team, which I then led for over 7 years. My husband, Francis, who is a church organist, rang as one of the team members for most of that time. Last year, we started lunch time handbell clubs at two local primary schools and, more recently, the adult group at Fairways. We are both members of Handbell Ringers of Great Britain, and have two octaves of handbells, hand chimes and belleplates, plus other equipment, which is all made available for the new team to use.
We look forward to meeting you.
